Gymnasium One Dubai (Gymnasium One Child Skills Development Training L.L.C.) is a KHDA-licensed supplementary education centre for Russian-speaking children aged 5 to 18, operating in Dubai as part of an international educational project founded in 2002. Classes take place on Saturdays on the premises of Nord Anglia International School Dubai in Al Barsha South, following the academic calendar of Dubai private schools: three trimesters running from September to June.
The centre was created for families raising bilingual children at the intersection of cultures. When a child grows up in a multilingual environment, the language of everyday life naturally comes to the fore, while the home language and culture can gradually lose their connection to daily experience. Gymnasium One exists to preserve that connection: it is a space where the Russian language and culture remain a living, natural part of a child’s life, rather than a subject studied once a week from a textbook.
Each Saturday consists of five lessons that combine developmental learning, art, drama and music, exact sciences and humanities. The curriculum is interdisciplinary by design: literature, mathematics, visual arts, music and theatre are taught as connected fields rather than isolated subjects. Programmes are proprietary and were developed by an international group of experts including scientists, university lecturers, artists and educators. Among the offerings are Russian Olympiad mathematics, literature clubs, creative studios and after-school Russian language programmes for different age groups, from young children to teenagers preparing for their future academic paths.
Groups are kept small, with up to fifteen students, so that teachers can give real attention to every child. The teaching team includes scientists, linguists, artists, theatre directors, financiers, mathematicians, journalists and actors, all of whom have completed special pedagogical training and have experience working with children of preschool and school age. The goal is not only to develop strong academic skills but also to nurture social confidence, creativity and intellectual curiosity in a supportive, inspiring environment.
Gymnasium One Dubai is part of an international network of supplementary education centres operating in major cities of the world, including London, Paris, Amsterdam, Buenos Aires and Dubai. The network has more than twenty years of experience working with bilingual children: over eight hundred students, around two hundred teachers and some three hundred proprietary courses across its centres. This shared expertise allows the Dubai centre to draw on proven methods while adapting them to the local context and the needs of families living in the UAE.
